Paulding County Woman Submits False Claims Under Deceased Mother's Policy
Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, July 11, 2023
ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Ashlarene Wells, 32, of Dallas, has been charged with insurance fraud, forgery, and identity theft.
In 2021, Ms. Wells submitted 13 unique claims under her own insurance policy and the policy of her deceased mother. When filing these claims, the suspect submitted several documents showing that her mother received care on an impossible range of dates.
“Upon investigation, it was determined that the dates of care listed on the documents came after the date Ms. Wells’ mother had already passed,” said Commissioner King. “In addition, the care facilities denied seeing Ms. Wells on the dates listed in her own personal claims. In total, the suspect procured more than $39,000 from these false claims. I am extremely proud of our investigators for bringing this case to a proper end.”
Warrants were taken out against Ms. Wells on July 5th in Douglas County. She is still wanted at this time.
