Upstate SC pain clinic owner pleads guilty to conspiracy in healthcare fraud scheme
The owner of an Upstate-based network of pain clinics that abruptly closed its offices in 2019 has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. based on a multi-million-dollar healthcare fraud scheme.
Daniel McCollum used kickbacks and bribes to generate revenue from insurance reimbursement payments through urine drug-testing referrals and prescriptions for pain relief cream, specifically targeting patients who were Medicaid, Medicare and TRICARE beneficiaries, according to the federal plea agreement filed Monday.
