Southwest Region Auto Theft Investigators Training Sees Continued Success
NICB hosted a Basic Auto Theft Investigators Course on South Padre Island during the first week of November. Close to 100 federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement were in attendance.
In addition to NICB hosted sessions, specialists from Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas DMV, the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority and the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office were also invited to take part in the program.
The need for this course began back in 2012 when NICB agents John Mitchell and Israel Pacheco of the Southwest Region, developed a one-day course teaching a basic auto theft course to investigators. Due to the number of people in attendance, there was a need for more training. That one course evolved into a three-day school that soon began expanding to other areas throughout the state.
In 2019, courses were also held in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. So far, more than 200 members of law enforcement attend this series of courses.
