HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A week after ABC13 reported that a Katy couple was charged in a multi-million-dollar luxury car theft ring, police announced that over a dozen costly cars were recovered, and more suspects have been arrested.
According to the Houston Police Department, an Auto Theft Division operation recovered 15 vehicles valued at $3 million and led to the arrest of four adults and a juvenile.
ABC13 previously reported that Dheyaa Abd and his wife, Iman Al Saedi, appeared in court days after HPD raided Abd's small mechanic shop near Fondren Road and Richmond Avenue, both accused of stealing the lavish cars by hacking into a computer program used to ship cars across the country.
In addition to Abd and Saedi, HPD said it also arrested Matthew Gonzalez and Saifuldeen Al Gubri in connection with the theft ring.
"All were involved in a high-end theft ring where numerous vehicles were stolen via transport vehicles. You all hacked into Central Database and rerouted shipments of luxury cars at different drop-off locations," a judge said in court on Oct. 9.
Court documents say all five suspects, including the minor, face charges of engaging in organized criminal activity.
