GRAPEVINE, Texas – A five-month investigation has culminated in the arrest of five individuals linked to a significant auto theft ring operating across the metroplex.
On January 29, 2026, Grapevine Police responded to a stolen vehicle report from Embassy Suites. Overnight patrol officers successfully tracked and recovered the vehicle using traffic cameras. Detectives discovered the vehicle's license plates had been swapped and, through extensive follow-up, linked the stolen plates to additional stolen vehicles using license plate reader technology, according to a press release from the Grapevine Police Department.
Throughout the investigation, detectives executed numerous search warrants at residences, chop shops, and storage facilities. These efforts resulted in the recovery of thousands of vehicle parts connected to over 30 stolen vehicles, with more suspected. Investigators also found VIN-swapped vehicles and an unreported stolen vehicle used to facilitate further thefts across the metroplex.
Additionally, investigators seized large sums of cash and recovered stolen firearms. The estimated total value of stolen vehicles linked to the group is $1.6 million, with more vehicles expected to be connected as the investigation continues, stated the source.
With assistance from the Irving Police Department SWAT and Denton County, five suspects have been arrested and charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Property Theft over $300,000.
