SLED charges Charleston woman for insurance fraud, claimed vehicle damaged in flooding

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Charleston County woman was charged with insurance fraud this week after claiming her vehicle was damaged during flooding in March, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.

24-year-old Kaitlyn Simone White was charged with presenting a false claim for insurance payment valued more than $2,000 but less than $10,000 Tuesday, June 24.

SLED warrants allege White knowingly submitted a false claim to her insurer after purchasing a car insurance policy on March 9 after not having insurance prior. Later that month, White claimed her vehicle was "heavily damaged" while driving from work through a flooded road on March 22. SLED warrants state historical weather data showed flooding in the area on March 9 but not on the date of loss she stated.

White was booked at the Charleston County jail Tuesday and was released later that day on $10,000 PR bond.
