Ulster Man Sentenced for Fraud Related to Saugerties Fatal Hit-and-Run Death

KINGSTON – A Malden man has been sentenced in Ulster County Court to three years of probation in connection with his guilty plea to insurance fraud for trying to help his wife in misleading their insurance company and covering up the actual cause of damage to their car that was involved in a hit-and-run fatality.

Ryan Maxwell, 43, was sentenced on Friday, January 17.

His wife, Lacy Maxwell, 43, pled guilty in August 2024 to leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Starlie Swonyoung of Saugerties. 

Lacy Maxwell was sentenced to 2 1/3 to seven years in state prison. She also pled guilty to insurance fraud. Continue Article
