FORT STOCKTON, Texas — A stolen load of copper valued at approximately $200,000 was intercepted by Pecos County authorities early on January 24, 2025. The copper, originally reported stolen from Houston, was being transported in a westbound truck on Interstate 10.
The vehicle, a white 2020 Freightliner truck tractor pulling a 53-foot box trailer with California registration, was located at the 230-mile marker on Interstate 10 westbound, according to a press release from the Pecos County Sheriff's Office. The driver, who had redirected the load from its original destination in Laredo, Texas, to California, was apprehended following a collaborative effort between Pecos County deputies and the Fort Stockton Police Department.
The truck and trailer were impounded, and a search warrant executed on January 25, 2025, led to the recovery of the stolen copper, now estimated at $175,000. The case remains ongoing, with additional charges anticipated, stated Sheriff Perkins.
