NICB/Law Enforcement Catalytic Converter Etching Event in San Diego

On May 17, 2025, NICB and the Chula Vista Police Department hosted a Catalytic Converter Etching Event in San Diego. More than 100 residents took advantage of the opportunity to have officers etch each vehicle’s identification number onto its catalytic converter to deter and detect theft and assist insurance companies in theft claim processing. NICB Special Agent Mark Reyes discussed catalytic converter theft and trends with vehicle owners. NICB has teamed up with San Diego County law enforcement to host these free, pro-active, etching events for the past several years, and will announce future events as planned.
