Lexington woman charged with forgery in insurance fraud scheme

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A 43-year-old Lexington County woman was charged after submitting a forged medical bill worth more than $10,000 to support a fraudulent insurance claim, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Shante Bethel was charged Monday with forgery involving a value of $10,000 or more.

She was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

Officials said Bethel used a fictitious MUSC Health Columbia medical bill dated Oct. 24, 2025, totaling $10,265.

Bethel submitted the forged bill to the Deyaska Spencer Law Firm to support an insurance claim involving Enterprise Rent-A-Car Rental Claims Services, investigators said.
