Catalytic converter theft prevention tips from Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority is urging vehicle owners to take proactive steps to protect their catalytic converters from theft. The cost of replacing a stolen catalytic converter can exceed the price of a typical impulse purchase on Amazon, the authority warns.
To deter thieves, the authority recommends parking in well-lit areas, installing a catalytic converter shield, and engraving the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the converter, as thieves dislike traceability. Additionally, painting the catalytic converter with high-temperature heat-resistant paint and setting up security cameras can further enhance protection. "Don't let criminals exhaust your patience. Stay one step ahead," stated the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority in their press release.
