Burned Vehicle

On October 12, 2023, a member company SIU contacted NICB Special Agent requesting assistance with an Auto Fire/Arson claim investigation which is also being investigated by another state’s Police Department. Allegedly, the insured falsified on a Police report that references the date his vehicle was reportedly stolen from a bar.  Investigation indicated the vehicle was in a PD tow yard two days prior to the date of reported theft. The insured reiterated several times he drove his vehicle to the bar, where it was stolen, which appears not to be possible because the vehicle had reportedly been torched/burnt and recovered 2 days prior. This information helped establish the necessary information needed for the member company to make the appropriate claim resolution and decisions. The investigation indicates that the insured may have provided false and or fraudulent details regarding the date and location the vehicle was stolen from.   The claim was ultimately denied based on the investigation and the alleged Insurance Fraud made by the insured. The Police Department’s Detective shared his investigation and results of his investigation with the other state’s Police Detectives for potential insurance fraud and or false police report made in their jurisdiction.
