Brownsville police see new trend in vehicles being targeted by auto thieves

Motor vehicle thieves have now begun targeting a new brand of vehicle, according to the Brownsville and Corpus Christi police departments.
On Jan. 6, Brownsville police said in a Facebook post that there have been 570 motor vehicle theft related arrests in 2024, which includes juveniles, and that thieves are now targeting Jeep Gladiators.
According to Public Information Officer Abril Luna of the Brownsville Police Department, the 570 isn’t the total amount of auto thefts reported in Brownsville for 2024 as some are repeat offenders.
