International Fraud Awareness Week 2020

International Fraud Awareness Week is here again! For 20 years, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners has utilized Fraud Week to raise awareness about fraud and how to prevent it. The National Insurance Crime Bureau is happy to be an official supporter of this week.

Fraud Awareness Week

Fighting fraud is a team effort. That is why the NICB works with insurers, law enforcement agencies, state fraud bureaus, and representatives of the public to proactively identify, combat, and prevent insurance crime and fraud.

In order to provide a significant impact for our members and the insurance industry, NICB developed three core competencies – our Pillars of Success.

  • Intelligence & Analytics – Using predictive intelligence, we must identify risks and anticipate emerging threats.
  • Learning & Development – We will provide ample opportunity for members and law enforcement to develop their career.
  • Strategy, Policy, & Plans - We will identify trends and define our position on a variety of rules, regulations, and legislation.

According to the FBI, the total cost of insurance fraud is more than $40 billion per year. That averages to $400 - $700 per family.

Even if you haven’t suffered a direct loss, you are still a victim of fraud. Insurance fraud causes higher insurance premiums for all of us.

The Department of Insurance in each state offers fraud reporting hotlines where consumers can report fraudulent activities or persons they encounter. You can also call 800.TEL.NICB to report insurance fraud to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, or submit an anonymous tip online
